You know you need a new roof. But how do you know when to get one?

Here’s everything you need to know about how often should you replace your roof. Read on!

12-20 Years for Composition Shingles

Composition shingles typically need replacement every 12-20 years, depending on the climate and environment around them. Regular inspections of the roof should be conducted every 3-5 years to check for any damages or worn shingles.

It should be replaced before they start to curl and tear, which can be an indication of wear or potential roof problems. Lastly, shingles should always be replaced by a professional roofer. Not only will they know the best materials and techniques for the job, but they will also ensure the job is done correctly and safely.

15-30 Years for Asphalt Shingle

For asphalt shingle roofs, generally, 15-30 years is the lifespan. Though this number can vary depending on factors such as quality of materials, weather, and maintenance, this is a good estimate of the lifespan of asphalt shingles.

The best way to determine when you should replace your roof is to inspect it every 4-5 years or after a major event such as a severe storm. Pay attention to shingle curling, granules in gutters, and other signs of wear so that you can replace the roof before it has caused too much damage to the building.

30-40 Years for Wood Shingles

Wood shingles are an extremely popular type of roof material that can last for up to 30-40 years. Generally, every 15-20 years, it is recommended to inspect the roof and replace damaged shingles to prevent any extensive damage from occurring.

Regular maintenance and repairs will keep the roof in optimal condition and prolong its lifespan. If you don’t keep up with repairs, the wood can start to rot, allow different types of pests to enter, and accumulate moisture.

40-70 Years for Metal Roofs

Generally, metal roofs should be replaced every 40 to 70 years. This range of years is arrived at by considering the length of time it takes for the metal roof to suffer corrosion, fatigue, or general wear-and-tear due to environmental conditions and the quality of the material used.

As with any roof, the exact lifespan can vary depending on the type of metal used, as well as the local weather and climate. In addition, regular maintenance of a metal roof, such as cleaning the panels and checking for any signs of a loosening, bending, or discoloration of the metal, can help to extend the roof’s life.

So if your roof is older than 75 years, consider having it inspected by a roof replacement service linked here as soon as possible.

Know How Often Should You Replace Your Roof Today

If you don’t know how often should you replace your roof, it depends on the age and condition of your roof, it should be replaced every 20-25 years. Doing so will ensure that your home is well protected from harsh weather conditions.

Take the time to get a professional opinion from a roofing contractor to determine if it’s time to replace your roof.
