Did you know that a total of 138,000 tourists visited Australia in 2022?

If you’ve got the travel bug, you should definitely visit one of the most picturesque countries. And the best part? The US dollar is worth MORE than the Australian dollar! So, it’s now much more affordable than ever to visit.

But you’ve always wanted to visit Australia, and you don’t know what to expect?

Don’t worry! We’ve got your back. Keep reading for a few things you must know before you visit Australia.

1. Know What to Pack

When visiting Australia, it’s important to know what to pack. Be sure to bring lightweight, breathable clothing that is appropriate for the weather of your destination. Anticipating sudden changes in the weather is essential.

Some places may experience drastic changes throughout the day. Sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses are also necessary items. Bring a swimsuit, as some areas are very hot. You may also find yourself drawn to the beaches and resort areas.

Shoes with good tread are also recommended, as there is a great deal of walking and exploring to be done in the outback.

2. Think About the Foods

You must try some homegrown Aussie specialties like salt-water crocodiles and kangaroo. Bush foods like witchetty grubs, unique fruits like the Riberry, and odd things like lemon myrtle and wattleseed are famous as well!

When you’re in Sydney, hit up a tasting plate to try out some of the fried goodies like emu and crocodile. For a more luxurious dining experience, look into Hunter Valley wine tasting tour.

Be sure to check out some of the world-renowned restaurants in Melbourne, Brisbane, and other cities as well.

3. Snorkeling

Australia is blessed with an abundance of coastal areas and marine life, making it a popular snorkeling destination. Come prepared with all the necessary snorkeling gear, including fins, a snorkel, a mask, and a wetsuit.

Before getting into the water, make sure to review the rules and regulations for the designated protected marine areas in Australia. Lastly, take the time to learn about the local marine life and the safety regulations before entering the water.

4. Surfing

Australia is one of the most popular surfing destinations in the world. Before you visit this amazing country, there are some important things you need to know in order to have a safe and enjoyable time while surfing. Firstly, make sure you attended surfing lessons and know the right gear:

      • a sturdy board
      • suitable wetsuit
      • safety equipment

Check the weather forecast before you go, and make sure you have appropriate clothing and plenty of sunscreens. Check out the Australian surfing areas beforehand. Some of the beaches can have strong currents, so it’s important to plan accordingly.

5. Plan Your Long-Time Travels

Before booking your long travels, be sure to research visa requirements, book accommodations in advance, and familiarize yourself with the currency exchange rate. It’s also important to consider the different climate and seasons, as some areas are seasonal.

Additionally, make sure to use reliable transportation, research top attractions, and stock up on necessary supplies, such as sunscreen and insect repellent.

6. Apply for Visa

Visiting Australia is a great experience, but there are many things you need to know before you apply for a visa. All travelers need to have a valid passport and a valid Australian visa to be able to travel to Australia.

You must make sure that your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your intended stay in Australia. You will also need to provide personal information and details of your trip. You also need to ensure you will have enough funds to cover your expenses while in Australia.

7. Learn Their Language

You should still be aware there are unique Australian terms, slang, and phrases you might hear locals using. Knowing a few of these words and phrases while visiting Australia can help you understand the local language better.

It may even help you have a few good laughs. It can also come in handy if you are looking to make meaningful connections with people you meet during your travels.  It is important to know that you must follow the conditions of your visa, including the length of time you can stay in Australia.

8. Think About the Tipping Culture

Australian servers are not usually expecting tips as there is no tipping culture whatsoever in the country. However, tipping is still appropriate in some circumstances, such as at fine dining restaurants and hotels in major cities.

Generally, the accepted tip amount ranges from 5-10%. In some areas, tipping can still be accepted and appreciated. Restaurant service, for instance, is more likely to be rewarded with about ten to fifteen percent of the total bill.

In taxis, rounding up the meter amount is expected, and in hotels, tipping the bellboy or doorman is appreciated.

9. Visit Sydney

When it comes to Sydney tours, there are dozens of attractions to explore, such as the iconic Sydney Opera House, Bondi Beach, Queen Victoria Building, and the Art Gallery of NSW.

When traveling around, there are plenty of public transport options to choose from, including buses and trains, but the best way to get around is to rent a car or hire a taxi.

Be Prepared to Visit Australia

Overall, to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience in Australia, it is essential to research and understand the culture, customs, and laws of the country.

Taking these steps will result in a memorable and safe trip to the Land Down Under. So what are you waiting for? Start researching and visit Australia today!
