But, like with any procedure, there are risks of having the augmentation.

Breast augmentation is popular, but the procedure has enough risks that there are warnings about post-op care. Before you choose to have breast augmentation, you need to know the risks of the procedure and how to minimize those risks.

Keep reading to learn about some breast augmentation risks, and how you can minimize the complications.

  1. Post-procedure Scarring Concerns

Post-procedure scarring concerns is a real risk of breast augmentation surgery. As with any incision, there is a risk that your scar may not heal fast or properly.

The surgeon typically makes an incision either under the breast (inframammary fold), around the areola (periareolar), or in the armpit (transaxillary). Depending on the location and sizing of the incision, it may cause a visible scar.

Your surgeon will take measures to ensure that scars are as light and inconspicuous as possible, but it is important to be aware of potential scarring. The scar may worsen over time or change in appearance, usually becoming more visible over the course of the healing process.

Talk to your doctor about your concerns before the procedure so you know what to expect. Taking care of your skin after the surgery, including using sunscreen can help keep the scars light and less visible.

  1. Implants That Don’t Last

Implants typically require replacement several times throughout a person’s life. When a person opts for breast implants, they will likely need continuation surgery at 10-15 years.

Over time, there is a potential for movement, thinning, wrinkling, rippling, and/or rupture. In addition, a person will need ongoing MRI monitoring in order to ensure proper placement.

Other related risks include infection, pain, swelling, scarring, and complications from anesthesia. Doing your research and understanding the potential risks can help ensure you make an informed decision that’s right for you.

  1. Infection and Implant Migration Issues

Breast augmentation is a popular and relatively safe procedure that provides thousands of women with the body shape they desire. However, there are risks associated with the procedure and one of the most common is infection and implant migration issues.

When bacteria enter an area around the breast implant, an infection can occur. This could lead to pain, swelling, a red and hot sensation in the implant pocket, and even pus drainage.

The migration issue is when the implant shifts in the pocket and can present as asymmetrical breasts or a change in size. Infection can often be treated with antibiotics, but in some cases, the implant must be removed.

It is also addressed by the removal and repositioning of the implant. The best way to reduce the risk of infection and implant migration is to have breast augmentation by Dr. Cappuccino or any other surgeon you find with a really good success rate.

Learn More About Breast Augmentation Risks Today

The possible breast augmentation risks should be considered prior to making an informed decision. It is important to be aware of these risks in order to make an informed decision about your body and safety.

If you are considering breast augmentation, make sure to discuss potential risks with your doctor to help make the best decision.
