The Best Cities for Hiking

VWB Blog 1 year ago 39

Hiking is an awesome sport that allows you to keep active while also getting to take in beautiful surroundings and fresh air.  When we hike the same trails often enough, it eventually gets boring and leaves us wanting more.

These are some of the best cities for hiking, and why they’re such a big deal for anyone who wants to travel to get the most out of their hobby!

Portland, Oregon

Portland is a fantastic city for hiking because it’s as purposefully green as possible.  In Rose City, you can head to the Tualatin Mountains, Check out the Willamette and Columbia Rivers, or even go to the local lava field!  Neighboring mountains like Mount Hood and Mount St. Helens are even visible if the air is clear the day you go.  Fans love the waterfalls and historic properties along the trails, and locals say they never get tired of this trail.

Phoenix, Arizona

If you’re ready for nonstop views and gorgeous mountain ranges, it’s time to head to Phoenix.  This gem in the heart of nonstop deserts is an ideal place to hike and relax in the mid to late fall or early spring.  Nonstop sunlight casts long and beautiful blue shadows that show up like neon against the yellow and orange stone and sand you’ll find out here.  Sparse vegetation and beautiful wildlife make many people go from hiking to looking at houses for rent in Phoenix the moment they’re done.  It’s easy to fall in love with these trails.

Salt Lake City, Utah

If you love greenery and beautiful stone formations, you’ll be lovestruck by Salt Lake City.  In the spring, these mountains turn gorgeous emerald hues, and in the winter, they’re beautifully rippled with snow and ice that makes them look like they’re made of marble.  This is a fantastic area to hike year-round.

Packing for a Hiking Vacation

If you’re planning your entire vacation around hiking in a gorgeous setting, it’s a good idea to pick and pack carefully!  Choose a city that has other great interests, like good food and fun entertainment, and make sure you’re going during the best time of the year.  For instance, Portland is best in the summer, but hiking in the peak of summer in Phoenix is generally hazardous to your health.

When you’re packing, make sure to take a smaller bag you can wear on your back for the hikes themselves.  In this bag should be a refillable water bottle, snacks, a small first aid kit, and a spare rechargeable battery for your phone!  These basics will give you a better chance at survival and fun through the hike.

If you’re new to an area and you’re nervous, consider going with a friend!  This will allow you to have fun and cut loose without having to deal with the stress of doing everything on your own.

Hiking is an Incredible Hobby

Whether you’re new to hiking or you’ve been doing it for years, there’s no hobby or sport that can be as calming and serene.  Consider checking out some of these fantastic hiking cities on your next trip!
