Did you know that San Juan’s original name was Puerto Rico? If you’ve ever confused the two, don’t be ashamed. People visit Puerto Rico all the time just to see the populous and historical San Juan.

Are you planning a San Juan vacation soon? Are you wondering what to do in San Juan when you arrive? If the answer to these questions is yes, this guide is for you.

Let’s say you are planning a four-day trip to San Juan. Keep reading to learn what to do during those days.

Day 1

Everyone who goes on a San Juan vacation has to visit Old San Juan. Old San Juan is where you’ll find old colonial buildings and Spanish forts.

This day will be filled with history and you can start by visiting Castillo San Cristóbal. The historic site has different fortresses, old gates, and city walls.

When you are done exploring the fortress, head back to Old San Juan for lunch and further exploration of the area.

In the evening, when the weather is cooler, try a walking tour to learn more about the city.

Day 2

On a vacation to San Juan, you’ll likely be excited to try some of the traditional foods and drinks. What better way to do that than to dedicate an entire day to the cause?

Puerto Rico in general has a great food culture, amazing coffee, and some of the best rum you can find throughout the world.

If rum interests you, take a visit to the Bacardi factory. There you can enjoy a variety of tours including a rum tasting and a mixology class.

If food is all you care about, enjoy the classic Old San Juan Food Tour that introduces you to good eats and helps you walk off the calories you consume. The local eateries you’ll try on this tour will be to die for.

You’ll likely be full and worn out after the tour so simmer down the night by watching the sunset at Castillo San Felipe del Morro, San Juan’s second fortress.

Day 3

One of the best things to do in San Juan is to relax by the beach! After all, you are on vacation. The Ocean Park beach is a public laid-back beach where you won’t find as many tourists.

At this beach, water sports are a popular option. You can watch the fun or join in yourself.

We know the sun can wear you out, so head back to your hotel and have a nap if you feel like it cause tonight you’re going to party hard. Go here for one of the favorite nightclubs in San Juan.

Day 4

After partying all night, you’ll want a chill day afterward. Visit a residential neighborhood like Santurce to enjoy art and get away from all of the tourists.

Not only can you walk around and find amazing street art, but Santurce has a must-visit museum, the Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico.

San Juan trip planning doesn’t have to be hard because there is so much to see and do. Decide if you want to spend your days on historical tours, eating delicious food, at the beach, or searching for art.
