5 Simple Tips for a More Obedient Dog

Most dog owners want a dog that listens and obeys for the dog’s safety and the owner’s sanity.

By spending a little extra time training your dog and being consistent with commands, you can see a big difference in your dog’s behavior.

Obedience training is one of the most important things you can do for your dog. It provides them with structure and discipline and helps build the bond between you and your furry friend. Here are a few simple tips to help you train an obedient dog.

1. Start Early For an Obedient Dog

One of the best ways to have a more obedient dog is to start training them from a young age. Dogs need a lot of patience and positive reinforcement to learn tricks, behaviors, and commands. The sooner you start obedience training, the better. Puppies, in particular, are highly impressionable and learn quickly.

2. Be Consistent

The easiest way to train your dog is through virtual dog training obedience classes. But, if you can’t make it to class, there are a few things you can do at home to train your dog. Start with basic commands like sit, stay, come, and down. As your dog masters these commands, you can move on to more complex tricks.

Work with them every day instead of every once in a while. You’ll need consistent behavior with them as well. For example, if you’re trying to potty train them, you can’t have two different reactions to them having an accident on the floor. This will only confuse them (and frighten them if you have a negative response, which will make accidents more likely).

3. Be Patient

No matter how much we want to anthropomorphize dogs, It’s important to remember that they aren’t human. Remain calm and consistent in your commands – getting frustrated will only worsen the situation.

Be patient and keep working with your dog – obedience takes time and practice to perfect. You’ll soon have the obedient puppy you’ve always wanted with a bit of patience and effort.

4. Use Positive Reinforcement

One simple yet effective tip for training your dog is to use positive reinforcement. This means rewarding your dog when they do something you ask, whether sitting, staying, or coming when called. Praise, treats, and affection motivates your pup to do better. Use these tools generously to reward your dog when they do something you’ve asked them to do.

5. Be Firm

While you should always be gentle with your dog, you also need to be firm and confident in your commands. They will sense your uncertainty, making it harder for them to obey. This doesn’t mean that you should ever yell at them, though. Yelling will only frighten your dog, making them less likely to trust you and hurting your efforts to train them.

Give Your Pups Lots of Love

Dogs are loyal, funny, and deserve all the love we can give them.

You can train your dog to be obedient with some simple tips. With patience and consistency, you can have a well-behaved and obedient dog in no time. Reward your dog for good behavior, never punish them, and keep training sessions short and sweet. With these tips, you and your dog will be best buds in no time.
