4 Common Signs of Bed Bugs in Your Home

VWB Blog 2 years ago 9

Did you know that 2.9 million American homes have both roaches and rodents? Even if you’ve managed to avoid these pests, you should be on the lookout for another one: bed bugs. After all, you don’t want to deal with the health concerns that a beg bug problem can create.

Stick around to learn about the 4 common signs of bed bugs in your home!

1. Watch for Bites

One of the most common signs of a bed bug problem is the presence of bug bites. While there are lots of types of bed bugs, only a few turn to humans for food. Both are in the genus known as Cimex, and one is commonly referred to as the bed bug.

Bed bug bites are most common on places like your shoulders or neck. You may notice them on your back, as well. They may resemble mosquito bites. But more often, they are arranged in clear linear patterns.

2. Check for Eggshells

You’ll want to pursue bed bug removal if you notice eggs or eggshells in your bed. These tiny eggshells will be a pearlescent color. And you’ll notice lots of them since female bed bugs are prolific!

While the eggs or eggshells are small and white, you should also be on the lookout for exoskeletons. Like eggshells, these can be easy to see since they are stationary.

The exoskeletons will be small, though, so look closely if you notice discolorations around bedsheets or your mattress. You may also find them tucked into the corners of wooden furniture.

3. Look for Red Stains

Another telltale sign of a bed bug problem is the presence of red stains. You’ll see these on bed sheets — and the red is an indication of blood.

Bed bugs will attempt to feed on your blood. If you roll over in the middle of the night, however, you could easily smash one. And that is what will produce the red stains on your sheets.

You may even notice red spots on your face from where bed bugs have tried to feed. If none of this sounds appealing, check this pest control service when you’re ready to get rid of bed bugs!

4. Notice Unpleasant Smells

While there are obvious visual signs of bed bugs, you might be able to smell their presence, too. Foul odors can indicate a bed bug infestation is underway.

Bed bugs will give off pheromones, which are chemicals that can trigger behavioral changes. It just so happens that pheromones can smell damp, sweaty, and unpleasant. If a sudden stench pops up in your room, start looking for visual evidence of a bed bug problem, too.
