HOW TO: MAKE YOUR OWN BLOG BUTTON WITH CODE/TEXT BOX

Hey guys,
This is an old tutorial on my blog, but I know a lot of you haven't seen it yet!
So here is an old, but useful tutorial about how to make a blog button for your readers to grab!
Hope this simple tutorial is helpful!

xoxo
Nichelle

***

Here's a short tutorial, inculding the code for your button!!!

First, you'll need to edit a picture to make your button. Some free online photo editing sites are:
LUNAPICPICNIK,  PIXLR, or FOTOFLEXER (there's TONS more)

I would make your button 125x125 or 150x150

After you have your button picture made, you will need a "direct link" for your picture.

To do this, you will need to upload your picture on a image hosting site.
I use:

Once your photo is uploaded, you will be able to get a direct link to your picture...

Now all that's left is entering the direct link to your picture and your web address in the CODE:

<center><a href="THIS IS WHERE THE CODE FOR YOU WEBSITE GOES" target="_blank" title="Button"><img alt="Button" src="THIS IS WHERE YOU PUT YOUR PHOTO LINK" /></a><center>

Now,  that's just the code for your button. If you would like to add the box underneath your button so others can grab it, like this....

You will need to make a code for the button and the code box.

here's the code: (just for the code box)

</center>
<center><textarea id="code-source" rows="3" name="code-source"><center><a href="THIS IS WHERE THE CODE FOR YOUR WEBSITE GOES"><img border="0" src="THIS IS WHERE YOU PUT YOUR PHOTO LINK" /></a></center></textarea></center></center>

Now, for both codes...
The top is for your button
The bottom is the code box

<center><a href="THIS IS WHERE THE CODE FOR YOU WEBSITE GOES" target="_blank" title="Button"><img alt="Button" src="THIS IS WHERE YOU PUT YOUR PHOTO LINK" /></a><center>

</center>

TO ADD IT ON YOUR BLOG...
go to DESIGN...
ADD A GADGET...
HTML/JAVE SCRIPT...
AND COPY AND PASTE!

There you go! It's not too bad, is it?
Let me know if you have any questions!

Mucho love.

GROW YOUR BLOG: THROUGH SOCIAL MEDIA

Hello Friends!

I hope you have enjoyed the "Grow Your Blog" series hosted this week by some awesome bloggers!

If you missed some of their tips and great advice, have no fear! I will link you to all of them! Scroll down to the end of the post to see!

Now, I'm here to talk about Social Media and how it can help your blog grow!
(I'm no expert, so don't expect a miracle! These are just simple tips from a simple girl! I hope they are useful and helpful, even if they are simple!)

Social Media is a great resource to keep your readers up on your current status, updates and news. It's a great way to keep your readers engaged and a great interaction tool to keep your blog/shop personal and to create a positive community.

There are so many, but I'm just going to focus on the two that I mainly use, Facebook and Twitter.

TIPS FOR USING FACEBOOK:

*Use the same "Voice" that you use in your blog writing.
Facebook is a great way to have "mini-posts" to keep readers engaged. It's a way readers can stay connected with you, even if they don't have time to read your blog daily. (There are so many great blogs out there, it's hard to keep up with them all!) Facebook is a great tool to keep your readers up with current pictures, events and promotions you may have going on.

*Keep things light and fun!
Because your entire facebook posts are sent right to followers news feed, keep things fun and simple! Something that will engage readers with a quick glance! Facebook isn't for full length stories or posts, but your facebook posts are a great way to lead your readers to your blog.

*Update pictures.
Facebook is very visual! Regularly update pictures! We love to see what's new in your blog or shop! Pictures are shown right in the feed, so it's the best way to promote a new product, or a fun post you have!

TIPS FOR USING TWITTER:

Short and Sweet!
Keep your twitter posts short, sweet and to the point! Twitter updates are a quick read to update readers!

Tweet Regularly!
Keep tweeting all day long, just keep tweeting tweeting! It's okay to post multiple tweets about the same thing! Because twitter updates are short and easy to scan through, the more you tweet, the more your information gets out there!

Explain Your Links.
Don't just send a random link out into twitter world. Be sure to give a short description that's fun and intriguing. Make your readers want to click on the link!

I hope these tips were helpful and useful to you!

Social Media is a great way to keep your community together and to network with others. It's a great way to share friendships and to help other bloggers spread the word and to connect with people all around the world.

Social Media is Social NETWORKING.
Don't forget that you are networking with PEOPLE. Keep if fun and interesting and most importantly, BEE YOURSELF!

Your readers love you for you! And social media is a great way to stay connected with them, and to find new ways to connect with others!

XOXO
Nichelle

Stonewash and Bloom: "Nowadays, blog sponsorships are a leading factor in the success of your blog/business. Choosing who to sponsor with should take more time and effort than choosing what shade of lipstick you wear that day, ok ladies? Hehe Choose a blog who's readers adore that blogger's posts, life, style, personality etc. Someone like Nichelle! Don't just look at her numbers (which are astounding!). Look at the interaction her readers have with her! Those are the type of followers you want to add to your blog family.  Sponsoring at Vintage Wanna bee was an amazing experience for me. She truly wanted to see ME benefit from it! She is simply the greatest and it's not the last you're going to see of me over on that there sidebar!!"

HOW I GOT STARTED....

Well, hello.

It is currently 3 o'clock in da morning , I wish I was asleep... But since I am not... I am here. Starting my, "How I Got Started" post. Which is somewhat ironic, because I probably started my blog sometime during the crazy hours of the night.

I get lots of emails asking about tips and how I grew so fast... so here's some of my story...

Now, to understand how this blog came to be... you will need to know this...

(you may already know part of this story... but if you're new... you may not...)

January 4, 2010 I was in a crazy go nuts sledding accident. I pretty much broke everything. ('cept my pretty little head) Oh wait, this story has a twist. I had to have surgery, and during surgery the doc accidentally cut my sciatic nerve, aka Nichelle's ankle is broke-y. I don't have full function of the lower half of my leg, mainly my ankle, but if you ask me to twitch my foot for you, I totally will. Took months, but I can do it, cause I rock. If you're still confused, my ankle is paralyzed. I just don't like putting it that bluntly, but yeah. I have some sense, but no motor control.

(Don't worry, I have a handy dandy brace that makes me pretty much normal. You can hardly tell. GO TECHNOLOGY!)

So, you needed to know that because months and months, after my accident, I slept horribly. Like... 2 hours during the night, and since I was bedridden for awhile, I would take naps during the day... but yes... Nights got lonely. And the Home Shopping Network got boring... (that's the only thing to watch late at night, by the way... and let me tell you, those deals sound incredible at 5 in the morning.)

So I started a blog... called, "The Peg Leg Diaries" {<--- I'm super funny}.
I wrote about how scared I was, how blessed I felt, how I was doing... etc. That was fun. It was a great way to get my feelings out. But, I needed more. I felt so limited, so I started a "Picture A Day Blog". Because, I may not be able to do cool things as much, but I could take pictures of people doing cool things.

THEN... I started THIS BLOG.

Why? Well... because I would craft all the time, and I found as I had my other blogs, there were tons of cool blogs, crafty blogs, lifestyle blogs... I seriously I had no idea before!!!

So, yes. That's how it started.

HOW IT GOT BIG???

Remember how I said I could never sleep... well... when you are up all night, that leaves you plently of time to blog. I LINKED UP LIKE CRAZY. If I was bored... I linked up... If I couldn't sleep... I linked up. I could have EASILY spent HOURS a DAY linking up.

That, I promise, is the main reason my blog grew so fast.

Since, that's not really an option for normal people starting out... Here are my suggestions.

*LINK UP. Big parties are great, you know, the ones that get 20 million link ups, but I also suggest going to smaller blogs. {Of course, link up to my linky party} You're not exposed to as many readers, but you have devoted followers that will read more and want to meet new bloggers [YOU}, and with a smaller blog, you're more likely to get noticed.

*GET PEEPS INTEREST. One of the first things I did on my blog was a "Disney Princess Inspired Collection." I made a headband, representing a different Disney Princess. Readers would find me, via linky parties, and get excited and would check back for the newest Disney Tutorials.

*GET FRIENDS IN HIGH PLACES. Become part of a community. Talk to bloggers. BEE friendly. I LOVE when people remember that I'm a legit real person. Talk to bloggers, help each other out, guest post, sponsor. ANYTHING. (Don't be afraid to email "famous" bloggers. Seriously. Just do it. Want to guest post, ask. It never hurts.)

*FIND YOUR VOICE. Have you noticed my horrible grammar? Have you noticed how often I say rad, dude, awesome, peeps. That's how I talk. This blog is ALL NICHELLE. I'm me. That's pretty much the sum of what I mean. Don't be afraid to let people in, we all have a story, struggles, and wisdom to share. I'm not saying share everything, that would be awkward, but do be REAL.

*DON'T COPY. Be original. I mean, if you're being yourself, it shouldn't be that hard. Also, while we're on this... don't take things from blogs without asking. There's nothing as frustrating as seeing your tutorials, your pictures, and your ideas on someone else's blog. We are all here to inspire one another, remember that.

*SOCIAL NETWORK. Don't be afraid to use facebook, twitter, pinterest, etc to expand your blog. Get your name out there. Get people coming back!!!

*If you don't want to spend hours and hours of time, stress, tears, worry... don't do it. But, keep in mind, that's what it takes to become "big". Only blog if you're going to enjoy it. It's totally fine if you don't have 1000 followers in a year, or two years, or ten years. Blogging isn't about becoming famous, or rich. It's about sharing your story, and making the world a better place. At least, that's my opinion.

I started my shop after about 2 months of starting Vintage Wanna Bee.
I just started slowly, wasn't planning on making bank.
The shop, is now kinda picking up... so that's a whole other post. And, I'm still a newbie when it comes to that side of things. :)

Did that help?
Did that answer some questions?

Feel free to always ask questions! PLEASE DO!!!!

P.S. There will be more "parts" to this post later...
So...

TO BE CONTINUED...

xoxo

BLOG TIPS: SIDEBAR BUTTON TUTORIAL

Hello Friends!

No craft tutorial today, sorry! But if you want to check out my latest tutorial, a Sequin Headband, click here.

So, I've recieved some emails about blogging tips and help about organizing your blog and adding buttons.
(BTW... If I haven't responded to you yet, I will be soon.)

If you want to make your own blog button (with code box) click here.

Created By Chelle

But today, I'll be showing you how to add buttons to your side bar...

It's REALLY easy.

There are two ways that I'm going to show you.
The first is very simple.
You upload a "picture gadget"

Add Gadget>>Picture>>

Upload your picture that you want to be the link to your post/page.

(You can also link picture to post labels. I have a button that is linked up to my "Collections"... when you click on the button, it takes you to all the posts that are labeled the same.)

Current Project

(When your post is published, at the bottom it shows the labels. Click on the label you want to link to and put that in place of the page/post URL... it should look something like this:
http://vintagewannabee.blogspot.com/search/label/%7BDisney%20Princess%20Inspired%20Accessories%7D)

Publish, arrange and...
That's it!!!

Another way is to use an HTML code.

DON'T get scared. HTML really isn't that bad once you have a little practice.

Upload your picture(s) to an online image hosting site...
I use photobucket.

Now, in blogger...

Upload the HTML gadget.

Add Gadget>>HTMLJaveScript>>

You'll use the IMAGE URL
and your PAGE/POST URL.

Here's the code:

<center><a href="PUT YOUR PAGE/POST URL HERE" target="_blank" title="Created By Chelle"><img alt="Let's keep in touch friends!" src="PUT YOUR IMAGE URL HERE" /></a><center></center></center>

You can add mulitple codes in one HTML gadget.
Publish and arrange and you're done!

Hope that helps!!

It's great to add buttons to your sidebar to pages!
(About Me, Contact, etc)
It's helped my blog to be organized and give direct links to posts/pages and other sources!!

Let me know if you have any questions, and I'll do my best.

Mucho Love!

HOW TO: Make your own BLOG BUTTON!

Ever wonder how to make your own blog button!?

Here's a short tutorial, inculding the code for your button!!!

First, you'll need to edit a picture to make your button. Some free online photo editing sites are:
LUNAPIC, PICNIK,  PIXLR, or FOTOFLEXER (there's TONS more)

Now,  that's just the code for your button if you would like to add the box underneath your button so others can grab it, here's the code:

</center>

So, if you want both an example of your button, and the code box, just put both the codes in!

<center><a href="THIS IS WHERE THE CODE FOR YOU WEBSITE GOES" target="_blank" title="Button"><img alt="Button" src="THIS IS WHERE YOU PUT YOUR PHOTO LINK" /></a><center>

</center>

TO ADD IT ON YOUR BLOG...
go to DESIGN...
ADD A GADGET...
HTML/JAVE SCRIPT...
AND COPY AND PASTE!

There you go! It's not too bad, is it?
Let me know if you have any questions!

Are you not comfortable editing pictures or adding the code in?
Shoot me an email! I'd love to help you out!

Mucho love.
