Thought 1:

That I don't need to change.

That my 'quirkiness' makes me who I am.

We need to not put ourselves down, because it's really not fun when someone is always mean to you, that includes you. You can't be mean to yourself.

Remember your worth.

Thought 2:

I need to remember that I'm enough.

Even if I dont' feel that way, or others don't treat me that way.

I am enough.
That 'I am lovely, the way that I am.'

Which really should be thought 1, is that...

OVERWHELMED... BUT, THANK YOU!

Great stories start out, once upon a time... My great stories start out, so this one time...

So, this one time, I was super bored. I had been in bed recovering after my third surgery that year. (Oh by the way, we are going back in time to 2010) I started going through some fabric and decided to start doing something, because let's face it, there's only so many times you can watch Pride and Prejudice and The Emperors New Groove. I got stuck in how to finish my project, so I turned to old faithful, Mr. Google. I can't remember where I first saw my first "Bloggy Tutorial", but they changed my life. I was like, whoa, there are people who blog about this stuff! That's rad.

Time went on, I made more stuff.

Finally, I decided to start a "Crafty Blog". I had already been writing a blog about what I had been going through with my accident, and my surgeries, to help keep friends and family update. (It was also something I could do while I was on bed rest.)

So, it was November of 2010.

Vintage Wanna Bee was born.

I had fun, it kept me busy, it was an outlet that I NEEDED, because at that time, I felt like I couldn't do much else.

Blog and heal.

That was my life.

As time went on, I got a job, went back to school, but kept my blog going because it had a special place in my heart.

Now, 16 months later, I've hit a big milestone.

Maybe it's not that big to some of you, maybe it's gigantic...

But, I just reached 2,000 followers.

I mean, really?
If you only understood the level of awkward I am.
If you only understood how shy and weird I am.
If you only understood, I'm not cool enough to have 2,000 blog followers.
~~~Trust me~~~

I'm just boring and simple, Nichelle, who struggles daily with being insecure. I get overwhelmed when I feel I might be a disappointment to someone. I cry. I laugh. I make weird noises. I say awkward things.

Seriously, 2,000 followers. That honestly blows my mind.

I'm just Nichelle. I don't blog about anything life changing or extraordinary. I blog about me, some crafts, some random stuff, some complete nonsense.

Earlier today, I was slightly freaking out.

I felt like I was a disappointment as a blogger, that I had all of these people who wanted me to blog about something worth reading, to blog about something that would inspire them, or make them laugh. I felt this enormous pressure. I didn't want to let anyone down. I didn't want to fail.

I didn't feel like my blog was deserving, and that I, my thoughts, my ideas, weren't good enough.

But, then, I realised something. I'm just me.
I like being me.
This blog is "me".

I welcome you to my cyber home.

You may visit once, you may come everyday.

But, I welcome you.

My blog is an extension of who I am, and I am grateful you appreciate it for everything it is. Flaws and all. (I may think you're weird for reading my blog, but makes me love you even more.)

I'm honestly honored that I've gotten to this point in such a short time.

So, thank you. Old friends and new.

I promise to continue to do my best on this blog.

To make it a happy, inspiring place.

But most importantly, that I continue to be myself, and to be real.

So, thank you for stopping by my cyber home, and I hope you feel welcomed and loved.

So, I will be closing my shop

MARCH 3, 2012

I will be attending Creative Estates March 7th-11th.

After I get back from Creative Estates, I will be going in for a surgery on my foot.

I'm hoping I will be able to get back to "normal" things soon after that, but I won't know how soon I will be able to bounce back until after the surgery, so I don't have a reopen date.

With that said, if you want something in my shop, I suggest you buy it before my surgery, because I won't know when I'll be back. I'm hoping it's soon, but my first priority will be taking care of my body and recovering, so that I can get the most out of going into the surgery.

Closer to the surgery, I will give more details, but please, respect my privacy on this matter.

Now, you may have noticed something different about me...

I chopped my hair!

I was sitting at work, reading "The Shine Project" on my phone, and I thought to myself,

"Man, Ashley is seriously amazing. She gives so much of herself, in big and small ways."

So, I was trying to think of something I could do to make a difference to someone that day...

I know! I'll donate my hair!

I know it's not chaning the world or anything, but I thought there would be one person out there who would appreciate it, and is in need of my hair more than I am.

I had donated my hair a few years ago, and felt all warm and fuzzy inside.

I decided it would be a good idea.

I love it.

It's way weird. But, I love it.

It's a lot shorter than I'm use to, but I think it will be a good change, and I hope someone out there is needing some red hair...

Hello Friends!

I hope you have enjoyed the "Grow Your Blog" series hosted this week by some awesome bloggers!

If you missed some of their tips and great advice, have no fear! I will link you to all of them! Scroll down to the end of the post to see!

Now, I'm here to talk about Social Media and how it can help your blog grow!

(I'm no expert, so don't expect a miracle! These are just simple tips from a simple girl! I hope they are useful and helpful, even if they are simple!)

Social Media is a great resource to keep your readers up on your current status, updates and news. It's a great way to keep your readers engaged and a great interaction tool to keep your blog/shop personal and to create a positive community.

There are so many, but I'm just going to focus on the two that I mainly use, Facebook and Twitter.

TIPS FOR USING FACEBOOK:

*Use the same "Voice" that you use in your blog writing.

Facebook is a great way to have "mini-posts" to keep readers engaged. It's a way readers can stay connected with you, even if they don't have time to read your blog daily. (There are so many great blogs out there, it's hard to keep up with them all!) Facebook is a great tool to keep your readers up with current pictures, events and promotions you may have going on.

*Keep things light and fun!

Because your entire facebook posts are sent right to followers news feed, keep things fun and simple! Something that will engage readers with a quick glance! Facebook isn't for full length stories or posts, but your facebook posts are a great way to lead your readers to your blog.

*Update pictures.

Facebook is very visual! Regularly update pictures! We love to see what's new in your blog or shop! Pictures are shown right in the feed, so it's the best way to promote a new product, or a fun post you have!

TIPS FOR USING TWITTER:

Short and Sweet!

Keep your twitter posts short, sweet and to the point! Twitter updates are a quick read to update readers!

Tweet Regularly!

Keep tweeting all day long, just keep tweeting tweeting! It's okay to post multiple tweets about the same thing! Because twitter updates are short and easy to scan through, the more you tweet, the more your information gets out there!

Explain Your Links.

Don't just send a random link out into twitter world. Be sure to give a short description that's fun and intriguing. Make your readers want to click on the link!

I hope these tips were helpful and useful to you!

Social Media is a great way to keep your community together and to network with others. It's a great way to share friendships and to help other bloggers spread the word and to connect with people all around the world.

Social Media is Social NETWORKING.

Don't forget that you are networking with PEOPLE. Keep if fun and interesting and most importantly, BEE YOURSELF!

DIY: CHAIN NECKLACE

Hello Friends!

Today I will be showing you how to make your own "Rocker Chain Necklace". This necklace will add a little fun to any outfit!

Let's get started!

You will need:

Scissors, Jewelry Tools, Jump Rings, Long Necklace, Different Sized Chains,

Find different sized chains for necklaces, I used some from my craft supplies and an old bracelet. Use whatever you have in your house. Cut your chains to different lengths for dimension and for a "layered" look for your necklace.

Add jump rings to the end of each chain to add to the necklace.

Put each individual chain on your necklace, arrange as desired. I put the largest chain in the middle.

Add as many chains as you would like until you like the overall look!

There you go!

Now you have a fun rocker chain necklace, to add a little glam to any outfit!

REMEMBERING YOUR WORTH

Sometimes, as life goes by, people tend to forget one simple thing.

Our worth.

I know I do.

I get caught up in the busyness of life, the success of others. I notice all the ways I'm not enough. I see people doing amazing things, changing the world, traveling to distant lands, dressing in the finest fashions, living in big mansions and enjoying their 'perfect' lives.

I get caught up in comparing myself to everyone around me.

I'm not as tall as her.

I'm not as funny as her.

I'm not as pretty as her.

I haven't done as much in life as them.

I see most of the people my age, graduating from college, traveling the world, getting married, having babies... and what am I doing? I'm writing a blog post, which, will be the exact same thing I do tomorrow night, and probably the night after that. (Not that that's bad, I really love you guys.) I look at my life, and I just feel like I'm falling behind. That there's so much I should be doing, and I'm not.

Sometimes people look at me, and ask, why aren't you married? You're not graduated? You don't have kids? Uh, nope. I'm busy being awesome.

But here is what I have done.

I've conquered hard things.

I've relearned how to walk after an accident that almost took that away from me.

I've taken a paralyzed ankle, and I've RAN.

I've suffered imaginable heartache, and I've come out BETTER for it.

I NEVER lost my faith in God through hard times.

I've held on to the things that have always been the core of who I am, even though it would have been easier to forget them.

I've stayed positive.

I've learned WHO I am.

I know what I need out of myself, others and life.

I can let go.

I can grow.

I can take situations that most people would freak out about, and then I can solve the situation and laugh.

I've done all of those things because of who I am.

I am a daughter of God.

I am a Woman of FAITH.

I am Nichelle.

Being Nichelle is pretty awesome.

Even though, I break down, I cry, I get emotional, I get overwhelmed, I fail. All of my failures don't matter, because I get up, dust myself off and keep going.

I keep going because I know who I am.

Because I know my worth.

I know how special I am, that there are things that I can do, that no one else can. We each are here for a reason, we each meet the people in our lives for a purpose. There's something YOU can do, that no one else can.

NO ONE CAN TAKE YOUR PLACE.

You are special, you are needed, you are of worth.

YOU HAVE NO LIMITS.

You can and WILL become the BEST YOU.

The best part is, we get to GET THERE.

We get to grow.

What a blessing, to experience growth.

I'm doing my best not to get caught up in comparing myself to others.

Yes, they are great, wonderful, amazing people.

But, I'm just as great, because God made me, and He doesn't mess up, He creates beautiful and wondrous things, He made me, and He loves me, and that's quite an amazing thing.

DIY: "CANDY HEARTS" {VALENTINE} BANNER

I was looking around my room, and thought to myself! Oh, my! I need some Valentine's Decorations!

So, I decided to make this cute little banner in honor of those "Candy Hearts".

Here's what I did:

1. Supplies you need: Paper, Scissors, Makers, Ribbon.

2. First, fold your paper in half, and cut a heart. Trim the edges until you get the desired heart shape. This will be the master that you will cut around, so you can get perfectly shaped hearts each time you cut.

3. Cut as many hearts out, in as many colors as you would like.

4. Write cute sayings on each heart.

5. Tape your hearts to a fun, festive ribbon.

6. Hang up, and ENJOY!

I'M GRATEFUL FOR MY SISTERS...

(I'm the one with the cheesy smile, pointed toe and redhair, or I could just say, I'm the one on the right.)

I just wanted to have a little tender moment and just say,

I love my sisters.

We haven't always been best friends, we fight, we disagree and we steal each others clothes, but I wouldn't be the person I am today if it wasn't for my sisters.

I'm blessed to be the middle child.

I know what it's like to have an older sister to look up to, and to have a younger sister to protect.

My older sister has always been this amazing, successful, charismatic, energetic amazing woman. I always wanted to be like her. I loved being, "Natalee's Little Sister", even though at times it was hard to live in her shadow. Having such a confident, head strong older sister caused me to come out of my shell, and to gain my own confidence. She taught me that you can be confident in your own skin, and she taught me to love myself and to be strong. She's also one of the kindest people I've ever met. Now, she may not appear that way- just because she's so confident and blunt- but really, beneath her "Natalee-ness" she's the kindest, most caring, sensitive sister I could ever ask for. With that said, if you hurt me, run away, she'll have no problem kicking your bum-bum.

I'm also so grateful for my little sister, she's amazing, kind, smart, funny and beautiful. Seriously, that woman is gorgeous. When she's not being your typical crazy little sister, she's the most thoughtful person I know. She'll always leave me kind little notes, or sit and listen when I need someone. There have been countless times where I've just needed to cry, and she'll just sit with me. I don't think I can ever repay her for not only being my sister, but being my friend.

The bonds of sisterhood are very powerful, and I feel so very blessed to be able to call my sisters my best friends.

I'm also blessed, because a lot of my friends, I consider my "sisters".

I'm so grateful to YOU.

My friends who are kind, and caring and love me, even though I'm weird, crazy, and mostly awkward.

I'm grateful for the women in my life who uplift and bless me.

They are they when I need them, they listen when I need to cry, they laugh at my not-so-funny jokes, the give me simple words of wisdom, and they give me examples of the type of friend, daughter, and mother I want to strive to be one day.

'BE STRONG WHEN YOU ARE WEAK....'

Lately, I've been struggling with my worth. I've been forgetting about my diving nature, and how much I matter. Lately, I've been feeling like I don't matter at all.

Let me tell you a short little story...

Once upon a time, there was a Princess named Nichelle. Nichelle had the worst luck in the world. No matter how hard she tried, terrible things always happened to Nichelle. Nichelle was feeling overwhelmed, insecure and hopeless.... (to be continued.)

Do you ever feel like you fail at life?
Do you ever feel so alone, that even when you're surrounded by people who love you, you want to cry?
Do you ever feel like nothing good ever happens to you?

That's how I've been feeling lately. I really promise, I know that's not true. I'm blessed with such a great life, but sometimes, I want to punch life is the face.

Every time that something crazy or horrible has happened in my life, it has lead to greater blessings then I could ever imagine. I know, that even though the past few years of my life have had some, "less than ideal" moments, that I will be blessed. Even though, I can't see the end, and I can't see the light, I know it's there. Sometimes, I don't remember that, and I get into this depressed funk, (this is usually when you see new products listed in the shop- I sit in my room and create.)

Throughout her days, Princess Nichelle met many suitors. Some tall, some short, some fat, some skinny, some ugly, some handsome, but these suitors had one thing in common, they were frogs. Even the princess's handmaidens noticed this, and would often say to Princess Nichelle, "I can't believe your unbelievable bad luck, all your suitors are 'frogs'." Nichelle was quite fond and appreciated some of her frog suitors, but most of her frog suitors left her feeling insecure and like there was something wrong with her. She often thought to herself, "What kind of princess can't turn any frog into a prince? Is it me, is it my fault?"

Most people ask me about my dating life, real life friends and blogger friends alike. It's totally okay that you ask, I'm not asking you to stop, but you need to know... I have the worst luck. I'm not saying all the guys I date are bad guys (even though, I seem to find the worst boys to date) but I just have bad luck. Simple as that. My horrible luck is most visible in my dating life, but that's probably due to the fact that dating is a big part of your 20's. I know that the reason most of my relationships fail, or never get to far, is because of my insecurities, but if those boys understood how much I've gone through with dating, I think most of my insecurities would be excused.

Honestly, I think I broke a couple mirrors or walked under a ladder while holding a black cat. The level of my 'unluckliness' is at times, very comical.

Now, don't get me wrong. This is not a plea for marriage. Marriage scares me. As much as the though of not dating sounds awesome, I don't think I'm even close to being ready.

But, even though there are many things that are crazy and incredibly unlucky in my life, I know that I'm going through these hard trials for a reason. I know that I will learn and grow and I will develop into the person I'm suppose to be. I've been given opportunities for self improvement and growth, and it's up to me to choose to make the best at the cards I've been dealt. Even if they are the worst cards in the deck, they still are cards, and they still are for me. If I can't play a hand with the cards, I'll just turn them into a cool craft project, no big deal.

Princess Nichelle went throughout her days striving to be the best she could, she stumbled and fell a few times, but she kept going forward.

Even though, my life has been a little stinky lately, I'm doing my best. I get really insecure at times, and I'm aware of that. I know I have a long way to go, but I'm trying.

After the constant trials in the past few years, I need to give myself more credit. There are times when life is going to be hard, and I need to allow myself to fail. It's okay if I'm not doing everything perfectly, and I don't need to be sorry for trying.

So, if any of you are going through a hard time right now, just know, it's going to be okay. Even if you don't soar through your difficulty in the way you planned, just remember you are learning and growing, and as long as you are moving forward, that's what counts.

The story of Princess Nichelle is still being written. She's met many good friends and fellow travelers along the way. But, Nichelle will continue to love her life and enjoy the best part of any story, the middle...

JUST THINKING...

So, I've been doing a lot of thinking on this subject, so now, I'm going to share my thoughts.
This is my blog, I do not intend to step on any toes, I'm just trying to express myself. Please, don't be a meanie.

The other day I was watching a local "Talk- Craft Show" thing, whatever the correct term is, and they were answering viewers questions, one lady asked a simple question, which in my opinion was a very good question that a lot of people may have wondered about, and the hosts literally laughed out loud AT the question. I was so shocked. Who does that? I wasn't that upset, but I did make a little note to them that I was so turned off by it, and explained how inappropriate I thought that was. I didn't get a response, nor did I expect one, I just hope someone actually read it and they'll think twice now.

Then, yesterday I was watching a different Talk Show, and the host was taking questions. She was just being so cold and off-putting. I was like, sheesh, it's your show, you don't have to take questions, go back to just talking if you hate human interaction that much. It was so weird. I was frustrated.

These people that I thought were once so personable and a joy to watch, were making me feel like I didn't matter, and I wasn't even the one interacting or asking the question.

The more I've come to be a part of blog world, the more I've noticed the same thing. There are blogs that I seriously LOVE, then there comes a point, where I notice they don't really care about their readers and customers, they do the bare minimum to have the appearance of "the girl next door" just starting out. I don't mean to point fingers, and there have been quite a few that I have noticed this change in, so it's not just a rant and rave about one person. I, myself, have probably been caught up in the busyness of it all at times and probably have come off that way at times as well.

It's just frustrating.

The point of buying handmade is to support a business, support a person, uplift a dream.

If I wanted a cold, fake, person to deal with, I would just go into town and buy something from Walmart. You aren't better than the rest of us because you're "successful". What is success anyway? I feel success is being happy. I'm happy. I'm really happy. I know, that in my life, it may not be perfect, but I'm doing the very best I can with what I have. I'm successful.

If you have to put others down, or act like you care, when in reality you don't, or if you have this need to express to everyone around you how much better you and your little possy of "mean girls" are, then, you're not successful. You're just a poor little soul, stuck in your teenage years, and I feel sorry for you.

It's so frustrating when bloggers gang up on other bloggers, or get together just so that they can feel they are better than everyone else. Sheesh. Sometimes, I want to delete my blog and start over. Having a large following is stressful. Although, I'm okay admitting, that I'm proud of what I've accomplished. But, I also know that I'd be nowhere without all of you. Each person that supports me, means the world to me. I never want to take anyone for granted, or to make anyone feel like they aren't the most important follower, customer or new friend that I have.

Don't these ladies remember when they started? How they were once small? How they weren't sure if they were going to make it?

Why be mean to the little guys? They are the one that have helped you to get to where you are. They are the ones that are making you successful.

It's so frustrating when I'll get emails having them expect me to not reply, because so many other bloggers simply ignore them, or do the bare minimum to help them. If you email me personally, I respond. I don't have time to help everyone, and sometimes I'm swamped with emails. But, if someone has taken the time to directly email me, I help. I'm not perfect, and sometimes, I'll read an email and forget to respond, or I'll get to overwhelmed with everything I have to do. But, I do my best to be who I say I am.

I care about people. That's why I'll be "successful".

I hope that no matter how "big" or small you are, you remember that you're nowhere without others. Remember to always be kind, and to treat others as you want to be treated.

Winter has officially begun. Sub-freezing temperatures, Popsicle fingers, Chilly toes. You name it, winter's got it. This winter, stop disregarding your faithful basic tees sitting at the back of your dresser. Pull them and get ready for a scarf marathon!

My friend, Elli, and I pulled out all of our favorite scarves to celebrate the season. Together, with over sixty scarves, we headed to our favorite ice cream parlor. Avoiding multitudes of weird looks and toddlers pointing at us thinking we were someone important, we, after gazing at the delicious displays for what seemed like hours, begun shooting what we both admit is one of our best shoots yet.

Winter Scarves:

This adorable scarf is wonderful to be worn with a simple coat to give some visual interest. Think pea coats or barn jackets for maximum focus on the scarf.

The texture of this scarf is gorgeous; it has a great hand-woven look as well.

Everything about this scarf I love. It is a perfect length, and the magenta color looks gorgeous with all skin tones.

Casual Scarves:

Tons of designers this season decided to bring back the big, tropical florals. I am in love with this scarf and the coloring for that reason- it makes me feel like I am a resort in Bermuda even when I'm sitting in a classroom half-awake.

This is one of my favorite scarves because of the print. For just $15 at Target, I wear this a few times a month. Target has a wonderful scarf collection- I suggest checking them out to save a few bucks and still have some adorable neck wear!

Solid or subtly patterned scarves are great for trying out new ways to wear it around your neck. In this style, we brought the fabric together as if tying a shoe and made a mock bow-tie sort of feel. This is great for a boring day when the scarf will be the center of your outfit.

This scarf is great and gives a nice bohemian feel. The way she tied it closely to her neck brings it closer to her red hair and gives it a wonderful pop that couldn't as easily be accomplished for blondes and brunettes.

I especially love this scarf because again, it plays off of her hair. Speaking of hair, here is something I wrote about it on my blog about hair color. Having such bright hair as Elli does helps this gorgeous scarf look even more bright.

Solid scarves are great to put together an outfit without being the center of it. A nice way to play down a solid scarf would be to add a blazer or shaped jacket, wear a bright or statement cuff, or wear an interesting hair style to add some other visual interest.

I didn't mention infinity scarves in this section, but that would be an awesome addition to your scarf wardrobe and would be a statement in itself with its unique shape.

Head Scarves:

A nice way to incorporate a scarf to your hair or head is to wear it as a bow. The print looks very 50's-Greece and is a unique way to accessorize a boring plain hairstyle like a pony.

If you're bored of your typical headbands, don't give up! Using a scarf as a headband is yet another way to add visual interest to your head. If your eye color is different from that of your hair, wear a scarf in your eye color to make your eyes look even brighter.

FAITH POST: GIVING OF OURSELVES

So, I'm on a committee for my community's Food Pantry.

We need a new building, so today I had meetings with my fellow church members, asking them to help spread the word about this good cause, to see if we can rally the community together to help out those in need.

I'm so amazed at the power of giving. There are so many people in the world who need so much, and I feel so blessed.

So, as you go throughout this week, I ask that you count your blessings, and notice someone who may be in need. Maybe you could volunteer at a shelter, or donate your time or money, or maybe you could just lend a helping hand or a smile. Helping others brings us closer to God, and we are blessed for our efforts.

I'm so grateful for all the opportunities I have to serve.

I hope that in some small way, I'm helping to make the world a better place to live in.

When you give of yourself, you are blessed in return, so why not do it? You only have blessings to gain.

Sooo...

Here's a little sneak peek into my world.

My office and room are one in the same, although when I make new products, I usually spread out into the living room. I find my fingers work the fastest while I'm enjoying a chick flick.

Also, I have a date tomorrow, and I'm actually worried about what to wear...

That never happens.

Ususally, I'm like... "Meh, I'll show up in sweats, he's only dating me because he likes my red hair."

Or, "I wore this yesterday...but.. he doesn't know that. Muahaha."

I'm probably just worrying too much.
